Night Goat by The Melvins

Not grunge, but sludge, and one of the finest rock songs ever composed.

Sink Hole by Drive-by Truckers

Ever fantasize about inviting the heartless banker to your home for supper, and burying the man in a sink hole on the foreclosed land that has been in your family for five generations?

Under the Weather by KT Tunstall

Kind of washes over you, rather than engages you, but it’s a decent song and easy to listen to.

Galapogos by The Smashing Pumpkins

One of those Smashing Pumpkins epics. Interesting all the way through, combining clean and dirty guitars, and some of Corgan’s most emotive vocals.

Conquest by The White Stripes

Theatrical vocals and a fanfares. What’s not to love?

Laundry Room by The Avett Brothers

They echo each others’ lines to fine effect and throw in a true bluegrass coda at the end with fiddle and banjo.

Holy Roller by Mother Love Bone

A wild, hip-shaking rocker. Which is something absolutely irresistible.
